Buzzard

A common bird to the reservoir & surrounding farmland, often seen circling above the woodlands & neighbouring fields. Early records below are taken from local Bird reports & are worded more or less as they appeared in them.

07/04/60 - Maximum count of 5 birds

1966 - "Frequent"

19/07/92 - Single adult & 3 fledged juveniles. Latter being fed a rabbit

1996 - Frequently seen

1997 - Frequently seen. Young heard calling in July

1998 - Frequently seen. 2 young heard calling in July

1999 - 7 birds seen overhead in March

2000 - Regular with 5 birds seen on 21/10/00 (observers specifically looking for Honey Buzzards that day as there was an influx into UK)

2001 - Regular sightings

2002 - Up to 4 seen

2003 - Up to 4 seen

2004 - Regular with 10 on 19/03/04

2005 - 10 on 09/04/05

2006 - 1 or 2 regularly seen

2007 - 29/07/07 two juveniles one very pale

2008 - 1 fairly regular, 1 with a snake on 26/06, 2 pale birds on 28/07, 3 birds 10/08 and 3 on 11/11

2009 - 1 or 2 seen throughout the year

2010 - 1 to 3 throughout with 9 on 08/04 and 7 on 13/04

2011 - up to 4 seen throughout the year

2012 - up to 4 seen throughout the year

2013 - up to 3 seen throughout the year

2014 - up to 4 seen throughout the year

2015 - up to 3 seen throughout the year

2016 - up to 4 seen throughout the year

2017 - up to 3 seen throughout the year. Reported on 36 dates

2018 - up to 3 seen throughout the year. Reported on 44 dates. One eating a Carp at the water's edge on 14/12 is unusual

2019 - Just singles on 16 dates through the year.

2020 - 1 or 2 seen on 12 dates through the year

2021 - Singles through the year with display seen on 25/10 and 2 on 28/01 (the same day as White-tailed Eagle found)

2022 - Up to 2 throughout the year with 3 on 17/02 and 02/10

2023 - 1 or 2 through the year apart from 3 on 02/01 and 4 on 05/05
