The Sparrowhawk is a regular bird of the woodlands around the reservoir. The records below are taken from various Bird reports & have been greatly reduced to save space. This species is seen every year.

13/05/99 - Pair bred, seen feeding young on this date, nearby at Paintmoor plantation

02/08/00 - Pair seen passing prey in the air on this date and again on 08/08. Max 3 birds seen together

2002 - 2 records of singles on 12/05 and 15/12

2005 - 5 records, maximum 3 birds together in August

2006 - 5 records, maximum 3 birds in October

2007 - 7 records, maximum 3 birds in December

2008 - 10 records, maximum 3 birds in July

2011 - 29 records of up to 2 birds

2012 - 28 records mostly singles, but both sexes

2013 - 13 records mostly singles, 2 on 16/09

2014 - 11 records mostly singles.

2016 - 6 records of single birds

2017 - 8 records of single birds

2018 - 8 records of single birds

2019 - 4 records. Display of a pair over the south end on 23/01 did not lead to the expected sightings if they had stayed to breed

2020 - 9 records of single birds

2021 - 8 records of singles apart from a pair on 03/11. A Pied Wagtail roost attracted the Sparrowhawks to the south west reed bed in November

2022 - 9 records of single birds
