Fish

Fishing is as popular as dog walking at Chard.  Together with birdwatching, these are the most frequent uses of the reservoir and its surrounds.  Day tickets may be bought for angling at any time of year through Chard Angling Club.  Chard reservoir is highly valued by many locals as an amenity resource for fishing.

Carp

Carp are the most obvious fish, certainly to non fisherpersons. There are both Common and Mirror Carp at Chard, and the largest are maybe 25 pounds. These may be seen easily in the shallow waters around the bird hide where they regularly surprise visitors by their massive size.

Tench

The elusive Tench grow to about 4 pounds.

Bream

Small Bream are common at Chard

Roach

A silver fish with reddish fins which is prolific at Chard.

Perch

A greenish fish growing to a size of about 1 pound and found around the submerged trees.

Eels

Eels up to 4 pounds inhabit the silt at the bottom of the reservoir.
