What to look for in April

Spring proper!

Not thought of as a spring bird, but Common Scoter have occurred 3 times in April.

Osprey is a possibility not to be missed with 6 April records.

The highest counts of Common Sandpiper have been in this month (Max 50).

The record count of 350+ Common Gulls was on April 7th 2016.

There was a Firecrest on April 1st 2018.

If big numbers of Swallows, House Martins and Sand Martins are going to be seen, it will be on a stormy day in April.

One of the 2 records of Wheatear was in April. They can and do turn up in random fields on migration.

The earliest arrival date for Spotted Flycatcher is the end of this month.

Listen for singing Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers. Garden Warbler is a more unusual bird to look out for in the hedgerows.
