What to look for in July

Generally a quiet month, most autumn migration starting in August. There can however be some movement of terns and waders.

July is a good month to assess the breeding success of the Great Crested Grebe.

Common Scoter has been seen twice in July.

One Osprey has been seen in July.

Common Sandpipers often reappear in July after an absence in June and might be seen in good numbers.

Dunlin are unusual visitors that sometimes turn up in July.

Redshank makes regular, but not annual appearances.

The first 'autumn' Green Sandpipers may be seen in July.

Three of the twelve records of Little Ringed Plover were in July.

Common Tern numbers peak over the next three months

Kingfishers often bring their young to the reservoir in July after breeding elsewhere.

This is a fantastic month for Butterflies and Grasshoppers in the meadows.
