Plus an unidentified duck which
was associating first with the Wigeon and then
later loosely with the Tufted Duck. When it was
with the Wigeon it was clearly smaller, darker,
less rufous and with a clear white undertail like Ferruginous
Duck? I saw it at lunchtime and Dave Helliar saw it later,
but neither of us could identify it. Dave described it as Teal sized.
It had its head and bill tucked in while I watched it, but the head
appeared to be lighter than the body to me. |

October 13th 2005The Res is very full after heavy recent rain. The flora is turning autumnal, but the fauna is behaving like spring is in the air, with Moorhens displaying, Mallards mating and a Fox sunning itself on the bank. |

Heavy rain today appears to have grounded these waders, some of which are uncommon visitors inland and rare at Chard.. There have only been 2 previous occasions when Ringed Plover has been seen at the res, the last was in 1978. Only one Turnstone has been seen before at Chard,
in April 1977 |
