Grebes - 21 young grebes were counted today including one
still at the nest where there are another couple of sibling eggs
still to hatch.
One nest at the south west edge may have been abandoned (no young
seen and adult no longer on nest).
Another nest at the south east is still occupied. A pair of small
grebe chicks towards the north end probably came from one of the
2 nests by the lifebelts. My estimate of grebes hatched so far is
26 with 2 nests still occupied.

Recent counts of Grebe chicks have been done from the hide at the
south end. Today's count includes a pair of young at the North end
not seen since 26th and 3 young belonging to a pair on the East
shore where only 1 chick had been seen previously. There are also
3 known nests still occupied, so hopefully more to come. A good
year for the Grebes.

Lynn Osborne:Dipper
The first Dipper sighting since 1987. It flew under
the hide and landed on the floating platform where it stayed for
a few minutes.
The local streams are very full at the moment after recent and continuing
heavy rain. Maybe the Dipper was displaced by changes in its usual
haunts.

A really good mix of birds reported today with 3 contributors all
adding something different of interest.
I wasn't one of the observers today as I was navigating the flooded
Somerset Levels to keep an eye on the reintroduced Cranes. We did
well and found 59 which includes a truly wild unringed bird..
