Redwing several at south end
As dusk fell, a flock of 350 Starlings were seen to fly around
the south end. These were gradually joined by multiple smaller groups
until this main flock totalled 1220 (photographed and counted from
that) at which point they went to roost. Another flock of about
250 arrived some minutes later which quickly joined the main flock
in the roost in the reeds in the southeast corner.

The Cetti's Warbler gave one single fairly
loud call shortly after sunset. If it had been present at all in
the previous hour, it hadn't called. Then a little later it gave
2 short 3 second bursts of song, one of which I recorded 15 minutes
after sunset as above.

The Cetti's Warbler didn't sing
today, but just called with a repeated short single note call.
Fortunately the bird was seen to confirm the identity. It was again
in association with Goldcrests and Chiffchaffs.
The Chiffchaffs are a fairly pale sandy brown and give a regular
"Hooeet" call. The Cetti's is a darker red-brown with
grey on face and cocked tail.
A surprise extra today was a Daubenton's Bat flying
low over the water near the hide at dusk.

The first Cetti's Warbler for 26 years, which is
surprising as they are not that uncommon in Somerset.
It seemed to be in loose association with other small birds in the
bushes - Chiffchaff, Blue Tit, Goldcrest and Robin.

Green Woodpecker heard
We heard that the local pair of Mute Swans may be
being fed nearby. There seems to be a regular occurrence of a single
swan, regularly paying a visit, but leaving at dusk. This may be
one of the usual pair keeping an eye on the place.
